I loved Nicole's underrated debut single "MAMA" more than a sasaeng loves their oppa's dirty underwear, but I get why it didn't win everybody over. It was a little dark and restrained without much of a chorus, so it was never going to connect with people the way KARA's pop confections usually did.
Nicole Jung's MAMA mini-album was a huge flop in Korea, but I thought it was a spectacular life-changing effort that surpassed BoA, Kim Wan Sun, Uhm Jung Hwa, and Lee Hyori combined. (Slight exaggeration.)
I was originally planning to write about how Nicole's solo single "MAMA" makes a better dance performance than a good pop song, but it's grown on me so much over the past few days that I'm starting to love it just like I'd love any good KARA single.
