The Top Ten Most Anticipated K-pop Comebacks Of October

Whether it's Western pop or K-pop, the fourth quarter is always the most exciting time for big pop releases. Everybody rushes out their albums and your fave is battling someone else's fave and we all have fun little stan wars. It's great. October is looking especially juicy for K-pop this year: We've got the tarnished IU and T-ara putting out their first post-scandal releases, Taeyang and Kahi coming back after several years away from the solo spotlight, the almighty Nine Muses with their first full-length album, new stuff from underdogs like Block B and AOA, and a whole lot more.
I've rounded up the ten most anticipated K-pop comebacks of the bunch and ranked 'em all from least to best. Only the officially confirmed or strongly rumoured returns for October made the list, so that means no miss A, B1A4, Sunmi, or TVXQ.

Oh 2NE1, how you continue to fail us all. As expected, 2NE1 has not stuck to their promised schedule of releasing one new single every three weeks. Their last single, "Do You Love Me" dropped August 7, which means the follow-up should've been out on August 28. It's now September 25 --almost an entire month later-- and there's still no word on when the next single is coming.Read More →

2NE1′s “Do You Love Me”: Generic, But Awesome

In my scathing review of 2NE1's long-overdue comeback single, "Falling In Love," I gave the reggae snoozer a very generous 5/10 in hopes that it would grow on me (it didn't) and to avoid deluded Blackjacks backlash. Since my review, I've actually grown to hate it even more, going as far as to remove it from my Spotify in case it accidentally starts playing after I listen to one of 2NE1's good songs, like "Scream" or "Hate You." The phony foursome's now back with another single called "Do You Love Me," and while it somehow manages the near impossible feat of being even more generic than "Falling In Love," it's also infinity better.Read More →
2NE1 Falls Flat With Snoozy Comeback Single, “Falling In Love” (Single Review)

For her recent solo debut, "The Baddest Female," 2NE1 frontwoman CL pulled away from Korea's super safe hip-hop scene and took inspiration from the likes of A$AP Rocky and the non-RedOne Nicki Minaj. The result was a woozy, slow-burning rap track with an alien beat and a big money shot that doesn't show itself until the final act. Naturally, K-pop fans hated it and were confused by the nonlinear production, just as they had been by Girls' Generation's "I Got a Boy," 2PM's "A.D.T.O.Y.," EXO's "Wolf," and virtually every other song that dared to be part of the experimental trend that's been so big in K-pop this past year.
Once "The Baddest Female" flopped, CL was quick to announce that 2NE1's then-forthcoming new single would be "very 2NE1," and "very different" from her own solo work. She was right, and that's not a compliment.Read More →
