Global Icon never really hit it big, but they’ve always managed to remain somewhat relevant through small controversies and publicity stunts.

They debuted back in 2013 with an attention grabbing tomboy concept (We’re real men!”) and media played about being “the first Korean rookie idol group to release their song all over the world at the same time as their debut.” They’ve since stayed in the media with z-list CFs, extreme dieting, a contract dispute right before their last comeback, and most recently, being ripped off by Girl’s Day.

I’ve been a casual GI fan since their hypnotically good debut “Beatles,” so I was excited when they started media playing last week with a trashy MV teaser that was clearly designed to make them the second Stellar.

The group’s new single, “Doligo Doligi,” features funky production, booty-centric lyrics, and a ratchet as fuck music video–all good things in my opinion.

Like most sexy concept girl group songs, it’s about acting provocative so a guy will pay attention to you. In GI’s case, they suggest rubbing one’s butt is the best way to attract the male gaze.

Turn it, turn it, turn it, turn it,” they sing, “Rub it, rub it, to the left, to the right.”

I feel like it can also double as a self-pleasure masturbation anthem, although I’m not sure if that’s intentional or not (sometimes with K-pop you just can’t tell).

GI’s discography is surprisingly solid for the kind of group that they are, and while “Doligo Doligo” is hardly a classic, it’s still a decent entry into the nugu dime store genre (and a worthy companion to Badkiz’s “Come Closer”).

I hope this isn’t the last we see of these global icons!

I like the song, but everything about it is a downgrade to the group’s previous efforts.

Green highlights girl is killing it!

Her name is Dokyung. Or is this case Godkyung.

What’s the point of having a unique/different concept anymore? Most girl groups who debut with a different sound or look end up going the sexy route eventually…it’s sad, actually.

Anyway: the only part of the song I like is the pre chorus. The rest is passable. Bonus points for the suggestive lollipop BJ media play.

I can’t believe GI is still around! These gangnam unnies slayy

Btw, totally OT, but you will love this so much. This song and choreography is the shit.

Is that a thong at 1:57?

The sad part about this comeback is that the new girls did all of the heavy lifting except the blonde, who’s kind of useless. But you can’t have a Kpop group without one useless member anyways. The girl with green highlights and the dark/purple-haired one had more lines than the 2 originals. In fact, Dokyung (green) and Xiamin (or however the fuck you spell it) had like 70% of the song. WTF Originals. This is like the ratchetass version of EXID.

    • hahahahah to me they’re all new because, well i thought of GI i thought of lesbian concept, now they’re being fingered by the window’s grabbing cursor. waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay different group. u_u

nevertheless, the song is awesome and the MV is too. the girls-having-fake-fun idea made me think of that 2ne1’s fat mess “do you love me”, but the sorta cheapness of the cinematography makes this even better.

      • Mattey

True. They went from trying to be boys to to trying to suck off boys LOL. And the cinematography looks like it was powered by a potato and that makes this hot mess of a random comeback even better.

  • I couldn’t even make it through the whole track. Yikes…

Talk about a complete change from their debut concept!
