I’ve always been puzzled by J-pop songstress Hiromi because I don’t understand how she can keep financing so much good pop music when it all flops harder than Crystal Kay.
Over the years she’s released lush synthpop gems, Timbaland-esque urban-pop, twinkly reggae, and even a damn good Christmas album; all of it well produced, but none of it seems to hit commercially unless she has some big following that I don’t know about.
Her new digital single, “Tequila Sunrise,” has Hiromi back to her synthpop sound but with a welcome eighties twist. It’s not a knockout track by any means, but it is a sweet way to end the summer as we prepare for the slower, Autumn themed music headed our way.
