Yasutaka Nakata Depth feature
Just when the music world moved on from dubstep for good about a year or two ago, Yasutaka Nakata became obsessed with it. He’s already dished out dubstep hits for Shiina Ringo and his regular puppets, and now he’s done one for himself too.

“Depth (Vocal Dub Mix)” is strangely billed as a Nakata solo, even though it features CAPSULE’s Toshiko Koshijima on vocals and is set to be included on the new CAPSULE album, which drops February.

It’s darker than the dubstep Nakata’s produced for Perfume and Kyary Pamyu Pamyu lately, with its menacing sound falling more in line with Shiina Ringo’s demented “Detecting Love.”

I’d like to see Nakata take Perfume and Pamyu to a darker place at least once, but for whatever reason that just hasn’t happened yet.

Also, is it just me, or is some of Nakata’s best stuff going to soundtracks now? First “Into Darkness” for Star Trek, and now “Depth” for this Appleseed Alpha movie I’ve never heard of.

What’s up with that?

Anyway, check out the infuriating ‘short PV’ version of “Depth” below.
