I’m a Fergie fan, but her music really isn’t that much more high-brow than will.i.am’s reprehensible discography. It’s just that we accept Fergie over will.u.STFU.already.please because she’s a cool and sexy female, while will.u.leave.britney.alone makes his shittiness too obvious by recording songs called “T.H.E.” and naming albums after hashtags.
Fergie’s new single, “L.A. Love (La La),” is the kind of idiotic hip-pop that makes “Fergalicious” look like “Stairway To Heaven.” Over the same DJ Mustard beat that the producer has been re-using since “Rack City,” Fergie lists names of random cities and occasionally interjects with mindless La La La-ing.
That’s it, and it’s really bad, but it’s also kind of good. DJ Mustard beats are still the shit no matter how many times you’ve heard them, and just the fact that Fergie Ferg is finally back after an eight-year hiatus is a lot of fun in itself. I think?
Anyway, we only have to endure “I.Q. Zero (Dum Dum)” for another week, then Gwen Stefani’s “Baby Don’t Lie” will be out and everything will be okay again.
