Natalia Kills’ sophomore album, Trouble, is out now, and “Outta Time” has just been made iTunes’ Single of the Week. I don’t know if this means that it’ll be Trouble’s next official single or not, but some gorgeous artwork and a lyric video for it have been released, so there’s that.
There’s a lot of good stuff to find on Trouble, but “Outta Time” is definitely one of the standouts. The Jeff Bhasker-produced cut recalls the retro pop-soul of Phil Spector, with lyrics that sound like they came straight out of an old Crystals or Shangri-Las’ album. Actually, between the forlorn guitars riffs and “OooOoooo~” backing vocals, it’s a miracle that this didn’t come from an old sixties girl group album — it’s so beautifully authentic that it could practically pass for a cover.
