I first introduced you to New Rtist Only Girl back in July following the release of her gorgeous single, “End of Time.” At the time, the London-based songstress wrote on her bio that her sound was a combination of Mariah Carey and the Cocteau Twins, but in reality it was much closer to Florence Welch and The xx — at least, on that song it was.
Her latest single, “Mountains,” is a much better match for the Carey comparisons. Produced by Zero 7′s Henry Binns, the alt-pop ode to an endless love packs an R&B bounce and “Always Be My Baby” levels of unadulterated romance. Only Girl may not sing in the same style as Mimi, but her ethereal voice is so angelic that it’s positively spine-tingling.
The official “Mountains” music video is a low budget hipster affair of Instagram filters and cheap kaleidoscopic effects, but Only Girl’s an indie artist, so she’s forgiven. Plus, with a song this #beautiful, who really cares what the video looks like?
