Britney Spears Ooh La La

I love Britney Spears and I love K-pop, and since Empress B’s new Smurfs single, “Ooh La La,” totally sounds like a K-pop song, I’m obviously crazy about it. It’s the perfect marriage of two flawless things, much like that time Khia featured on a Janet Jackson single.

The music video premiered earlier today, and Britney is giving us MAJOR cuteney, innocentney, and motherney realness. The premise is simple –Britney takes Jayden and Sean to see The Smurfs 2, and ends up getting sucked into the movie through some kind of sorcery– but it’s one of the best Britney videos in years. The Holy Spearit looks so genuine as she strikes sugary poses next to CGI smurfs, and you get the sense that she’s just trying to entertain her boys and nobody else. It feels much more natural than the majority of her post-breakdown visual fare, which always revolves around her doing something ‘sexy’ despite looking uncomfortably awkward and out-of-it most the time.

Can Godney please just make a children’s album filled with “My Baby” ballads and adorable “Ooh La Las?” I’d buy it.

  • Blah

I’d buy it too! I’m one of the few guys out there who actually loves “my baby”.

And can we talk about the little jumps and arm hopping in the pre-chorus, too cute for words. Best choreo of the year tbh.

    • My Baby is flawless (as is whole Circus album) but her fans hate it because they only like Britney when she’s being sexy and doing dance music.

      • Legend X

I know right! Circus is a decent album, I just hate it because they put so much filler on it. She just confirmed she wrote with Sia and I’m pretty excited to see what they’re gonna do. She’s really improved since the DREADFUL HORRIBLE Era that shall not be named era, so I hope the album slays.

        • I love Circus and don’t think it has any filler. It’s Britney’s most personal album and if you listen to it closely it really addresses everything she went through

          • Legend X

I think Blackout and Circus are her most personal IMHO. They’re like..antithetical to each other. Blackout is like..perfectly descriptive about her life in 2007 and Circus is like speaking on the aftermath of that destructive period. CIrcus has some filler imo, like Lace & Leather, Shattered Glass ( it is a cute song though), and even My baby. I’m not a my baby hater though lol, i just hate the cringeworthy first lines.

          • lovers

I agree with everything you said! Circus does have a lot of filler. Its not as strong and cohesive as her other albums. I still like though. I think we will get a Blackout type of personal. Not necessarily direct personal lyrics but just a representation of who she is today. I can not wait for this album. I hope we get a FTR2 because I really want to know what was going on with her during the FF era. She looked so out of it and just not interested….

          • Akie_Of_Winterfell

I think you are right. There are talks about how the album will be more urban. So, I think it is not all going to be soppy ballad and stuffs like that. It will be like Circus album, great beats and tunes, but still have some personal touch in it. I think during the FF era, Britney was a rebel. Lots of the songs that she like got cut from the album. Hell, Britney was stated that she wanted a complete different direction for the album before her team decided to go all generic. However, I still think FF is a good pop album.

          • Akie_Of_Winterfell

True tea! Circus did both side of an entertainer for Britney, it is commercial, but somewhere between the lines, it also speaks what she was going through that time as an artist. Hope Album 8 will be much better.

    • Akie_Of_Winterfell

My Baby is amazing. It is one of a kind. Circus is great, I believe. Out from Under, Unusual You, Blur, Kill The Lights… Circus, alongside Blackout and In The Zone are the albums that I have never skipped a track when I put them on my playlist.

  • Lin Misfits

Jacq, what are you hoping to hear (from instruments to lyrics/ what she sings about) with her upcoming album since it’s her most personal?

    • Oh it won’t be her most genuinely personal. They’re just doing that because EDM is dying down and the music market calls for this style, and the team that controls Britney just follows whatever will sell the most copies.

      • Legend X

I don’t think it’s just that, lol Britney has been trying to do this for the longest! I even remember you posted about it in 2010 when you said she wanted to do torch ballads. Now after the label saw how FF Flopped when it didn’t go Britney’s way, they’re letting her have more control. Either way I’m excited

      • Akie_Of_Winterfell

I guess one of the biggest problems is that her management always go for club songs. Britney always wanted a different direction, but what to do? She is handled by a stupid-money-hungered team and basically shut downs her every wish. Look at her unreleased songs and need I say that flawless unreleased albums “Original Doll”?
I think Will.I.Am knows this and that is why he is taking over and he wants Britney to do what she does best.

  • Boring but cute video, Brit looks so in her element. Maybe her next album will be more G-rated if she’s making it more personal, but who even knows who the real Britney is these days.

  • iAmAwesome

Yas! Bow to the queen of pop, now queen of Smurfville!

  • iAmAwesome

But talk about her working with Sia. Although I’ve been over the Sia frenzy, I’m looking forward for this iconic Everytime 2014!

    • Akie_Of_Winterfell

Amen for that, sistah! Word is the album will be her most personal one. I really want the album to come out as soon as possible, but I also want her to take time to pull out an amazing album.. Gosh. I am so bipolar right now, i wanna cry.

      • iAmAwesome

Well, I got good and bad news because we’ll get the album by the end of the year, but I don’t know if that’s enough time to have it fully polished. Either way, new Britney music!

        • Akie_Of_Winterfell

IKR. It might be some times around Christmas. Guess they are aiming for that huge opening weekend again. Whatever it is, I am stoked and happy. I’ve been following her biggest forum and it is chaotic. LOL

  • Josh Chinnery

Brit is looking less dead in the eyes, so this video is a pure win in my book. I’d love her to show these pop wannabes in 2013 a little choreo (just to show them how a *real* pop princess gets down), but that’s asking for a bit much considering the state she’s been in (#NoCareNoCare). The song slayed me when I first heard it, and it slays now. This kind of cutesy bubblegum pop is definitely my thing, and I’d totally eat it up if Brit made more of this kind of music. Lord knows this chick needs to stop making club bangers when she can’t be arsed to do real choreography to them XD

    • Akie_Of_Winterfell

IKR. The song is addictive! And leave it to the queen to show how to do a bit of jumping jumping in heels.

      • Josh Chinnery

Mhm~ Kween Britney on the scene!!

      • Josh Chinnery

        Like a true queen :3

  • OH. MY. GOD.
I know it’s corny…. But I can’t get enough of this song/video! And I agree, she looks like she’s genuinely having a good time! I actually really liked the phone interview she did with Ryan Seacrest too…. She sounded genuinely pumped for Album 8!

    • Akie_Of_Winterfell

She sounded more alive than all of her FF-era interviews.

      • I completely agree! I think with this album being separate from her JIVE contract we might actually see something unique, and maybe without the pressure she’ll just get down to something she loves… Hopefully robotney will be no more. Plus, writing with SIA is a huge plus… Glad she’s writing again

        • Akie_Of_Winterfell

IKR. U see the Ooh La La MV? Bitch look amazing than all of the FF-era MV appearance put together. Hopefully they are not bluffing when they say the album will be more personal.

  • UncleFan

I like this Britney. She needs to do more songs like this. I hope she gets to spend more time with her kids, too.

    • MIKEE

Agreed! You can tell she’s in her natural habitat when her babies are involved. Lets hope she locks down that Vegas residency.

      • Akie_Of_Winterfell

She did this for her babies. Momney wins everyone’s heart. :)

    • Josh Chinnery

The parts when she’s talking to her babies is are just so precious!!!

  • Akie_Of_Winterfell

Regardless of the cheap-budget, this video will melt your heart. Godney did this song solely because they bribe her by making a deal that the boys will be in the video and of course, it is the Smurfs, so her boys will like it. So, basically, everything about the this song and the video is Britney doing them for the boys, now can you say Mother of the Decade?

I love this song. It is a cute song and addictive. But most of her fans hated the song simply because it is being too “generic”. I mean, dafuq?! This is a song for a kids’ movie.

Britney is recording her 8th album now and the streets are talking. Major producers are lining up for the album (Jean Baptiste and William Orbit – DEAD) and there are talks about how the album will be more urban, less auto-tune, and more personal. Britney is currently writing with Sia? I cannot stop dying.

    • Of course it will be more urban because that’s where popular music is heading right now.

You stans give her too much credit. Her management is just responding to the current music scene with this album, it’s not like all of a sudden Britney said “I want to do a deeply personal R&B album!” That’s why I had to let go of being a hardcore stan because there’s no point being so involved in someone who is so controlled by others. I own the Femme Fatale tour DVD and her performances are terrible, and she really sleepwalked through these past two eras. Every year we get hyped up from buzz and promises and then in the end they all get broken. Fans need to accept that her team controls the direction of her music and career and that they’re going to do whatever will fit in with the current market and sell the most. Legally this woman can’t even control her own money or make legal decisions for herself. People seem to forget that just because the conservatorship isn’t in the news as much now.

Circus was actually really good but her fans didn’t appreciate it because it wasn’t uptempo and sexy enough.

      • I’m glad to hear you say that Jacques! I haven’t been a Stan for awhile now sadly. Don’t get me wrong, I loved ‘Hold It Against Me’, but watching her lackluster performances and interviews throughout the entire era was sooo discouraging. I sat front row for both the ‘Circus’ and ‘Femme Fatale’ Tours, and I can honestly say the entire ‘Circus’ era was handled so much better. She seemed genuinely excited to be back on that stage, but ‘Femme Fatale’ in its entirely just felt completely rushed and forced. :/

I love Brit’s spirit, and when that smile is on her face, the one that’s in this video (finally!), it’s pure magic. For a long time that magic has been missing.

So conservatorship or no conservatorship, team influence or not, will-I-am production or not, I couldn’t care less. AS LONG as she’s writing again, and as long as that smile and passion is behind her eyes again, I’ll be a fan of album 8.

      • Legend X

Um…lol Britney has been trying to make an urban album for the longest. Circus was going to be more urban influenced, and Femme Fatale was gonna be slow songs, rock, and Urban. Pleasure You that leaked in 2012 was from FF and confirmed as a song stolen from Jive infor the original FF project by RadarOnline in 2010. Ester Dean even confirmed Britney wanted “Drop it low” to herself. I know Britney hasn’t been involved as much these past few years, but to make her seem like a puppet in this project would be under estimating her.

She has been trying to make an album like this for five years, and ironically the producers that were denied back for “CIrcus” and “FF” are the same ones working with her now on this album because she’s been wanting to work with them.

You also give her team way too much credit, if it was up to them they’d just keep releasing Ooh La La style tunes, they don’t know shit about music or popular acts because all their acts are flops besides Britney and they keep rehashing the same dance music from 2011. William Orbit who is VERY frank to the point of it being annoying even asid Britney was very involved in the project and you know he can’t keep his mouth shut about anything.

I understand that you’ve become jaded towards Brit, (even I kinda have after what went down in 2011), but this woman has an impeccable ear for music and was the same woman who wanted “Telephone” back in 2008, and bringing up the C-ship has nothing to do with her artistry.

So Jacques, give Britney the artist the benefit of the doubt, because she still has it in her in terms of what she brings to the musical table.

      • Hwga

Here we go again… Omce more you are talking about all the reasons you stopped being a stan… Just get over it, you r not a stan and that’s ok, she doesn’t seems to be sad about that…

        • Dude it’s in the comments section where I always talk to readers. I’m allowed to share my opinion just as you are allowed to share yours. Most of what I did was just state facts anyway.

  • Jake

    You misspelt sorcerney.

  • Lee James

This is the first time I have ever found Britney sexy.

  • Nicole Naeun

THIS IS SOO CUTE!!! I never imagined that I would ever see the day that my childhood idol Godney Spears becomes a mother lol.

  • Lashan

MAJOR cuteney, innocentney, and motherney realness!! She def is!!!

  • Fantasy

    Loved IT!

  • KingBeaArthur

    TOOOO CUTE!!! I loved it!

  • Luke

REALLY… I know it’s a kids film but the only thing good I can say about this is that she looks great and is obviously enjoying herself.

I thought this was gonna be a full on 00’s style video when she was in the cinema and got zapped and then…

I’ll wait for the official lead single from her next album, This is cute though.
