Duke Dumont MNEK Hold On

DJ and producer, Duke Dumont, had a huge hit this year with “Need U (100%),” which deservingly topped the UK singles chart in April. The A*M*E-assisted single was co-penned by MNEK, who steps up his contributions on Dumont’s latest song, “Hold On,” as the official guest vocalist.

This one’s miles away from the slick, chart-ready “Need U,” with MNEK delivering an achingly raw vocal performance over Dumont’s smoldering deep house production. It’s definitely better suited for under the sheets than on the dance floor — especially on the homestretch when MNEK gets his Prince on and drops into falsetto.

Pitchfork says that “Hold On” isn’t the official follow-up to “Need U,” which makes sense considering how uncommercial it is. It’s a shame though, as I’d love to see this one get a proper push. With the mainstream EDM scene no longer solely filled with Guetta garbage and brostep, a song like “Hold On” could possibly do well, especially in the UK.
