After seeing the early Tiger Beat-influenced artwork for Annie’s stellar new album, The A&R EP, it was only going to be a matter of time before the Norwegian pop goddess churned out a music video in the same nostalgic style.
The visual for lead single, “Back Together,” brilliantly revives the old kaleidoscopic green screen videos of the late ’80s and early ’90s (think “Buffalo Stance” and “Pump Up The Jam”). Even better is that it opens like an old music video countdown show, and then drops a few Pop-Up Video facts for good measure.
However, the cherry on top has to be Annie’s Robin-esque “dance like nobody’s watching!” choreography. It’s so uncool that it’s cool (that’s how these things work, right?)
I was planning to review The A&R EP this week, but it was really just a guise to spaz out over “Ralph Macchio” for a few paragraphs. Since Annie conveniently dropped this clip, I can just do it here: “Ralph Macchio” is perfect and you all need to listen to it on repeat and rate it as one of your fave pop songs of the year, just like I have.
